Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I see a Registered Dietitian?
Seeing a Registered Dietitian (RD), has been shown to significantly enhance your physical and mental well-being. An RD can create a personalized nutrition plan tailored to your unique needs and goals. Whether you’re managing a specific medical condition such as diabetes or food allergies, aiming to improve athletic performance, or working toward general health and fitness, an RD can provide expert guidance. Additionally, RDs like Andrew, can offer support and education on sports nutrition fueling, meal planning, and smart grocery shopping, empowering you to make lasting, positive lifestyle changes.
Will my appointment be covered by insurance?
A common question we receive is whether online consultations are covered by insurance. We partner with several major insurance providers, including Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and more. While coverage depends on your specific insurance plan, most patients find they have little to no out-of-pocket costs. If your insurance does not cover dietitian services, we offer a cash-pay option at $125 per session. Before your first appointment, we’ll verify your insurance benefits and provide an estimate of any out-of-pocket costs. Have questions? Are Dietitian’s the same as nutritionists?
No! A Registered Dietitian (RD) is a healthcare professional who has completed a program of study accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) and passed a national registration exam. RDs are highly-trained experts on nutrition and help people improve their health via their eating habits. Nutritionists, on the other hand, do not have any required education or training, and their services are not regulated in any way. Which is why nutritionists are not able to work with health insurance. In general, dietitians have more extensive training and are held to higher standards of practice.
How many appointments do I need?
Everyone is different, so there’s no one-size-fits-all approach — you and your dietitian will work together on a cadence that will set you up for success. Nutrition, fitness and lifestyle changes are most effective if done consistently, so we typically work with clients starting weekly and bi-monthly then move to monthly (long term clients), depending on personal need and insurance/ finances.
Do you offer in-person sessions?
In-person 1 on 1 sessions are not available at this time. Group classes, cooking demos and other services are available in LA/OC California. Please reach out to me directly at andrew.rdcoach@gmail.com or text at +1 (562) 713-4615.
